About
Hi, I'm Maria and I love teaching Zumba classes! Music and dance have always been a passion of mine. When the Zumba fitness program came along, I knew I had to try it! I immediately fell in love. It allowed me to express myself by feeling the music and letting go. The Zumba fitness program had a major impact on my life. Back in September of 2010, I had my first panic attack. It was awful and scary. Everything I had suppressed for so long had surfaced and I was face to face with it all. Anxiety, fears, and depression had taken over until I decided I wasn't going to live that way any longer. It took sometime, but I was slowly lifted up with the help of God. He helped me to find the strength in myself. That is when I can proudly say that I attained my Zumba license. If you ever feel down, please know that you are not alone and that there is hope. Just don't give up and always believe in yourself!

This enrollment runs from Thu Dec 12, 2013 - Thu Dec 12, 2013

Bring soft soled shoes or yoga mat for the bare feet and sock lovers.

Qigong is suitable for all ages and abilities. The practice can be done standing or seated in a chair.

Qigong is a 5000 year old energy art for strengthening the flow of life force & improving health. Its recent surge in popularity has been a result of Qigong’s fun and dynamic movements of practice. Magnetic energy fields are formed and created in a slow graceful manner.

The Qi (life force) literally throbs and pulsates in your hands. Some say it’s the most tangible experience of the spiritual life force energy. It yields a strong “Qi Feeling” in minutes.

The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is pronounced chee and is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe.

The second word, Gong, pronounced gung, means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice.

Together, Qigong (Chi Kung) means cultivating energy, it is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality.

Major benefits of Qigong are the slowing of cellular aging, strengthening of the immune system, and the
enhancement of neuromotor skills and cognitive function.
The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.

Maya Tiwari
Having served more than a quarter century as a Vedic monk, belonging to India’s prestigious Veda Vyasa lineage, Maya Tiwari has been praised as a World Peace Leader by the Parliament of the World’s Religions for her outstanding work in creating inner harmony, health and wellness in the world. Maya’s time-tested ability to inspire and create change in human behavior and understanding is a matter of flawless record from the past 27 years of her devout work in the United States and around the world. She founded the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, Mother Om Mission, and the Living Ahimsa Foundation, and received the prestigious Dhanvantari International Award in 2011 for her pioneering work in Ayurveda education. She also recently received the Rishi Award from AAPNA for her outstanding work in Ayurveda. In November, 2010, Mother made the decision to renounce her monastic title and spiritual moniker-Her Holiness, Sri Swami Mayatitananda-and, as she puts it, “walk a simpler and more accessible life in service of the populations in need.”

She is the embodiment of peace, and a spiritual pioneer who serves humanity through her award-winning work by awakening the spirit of ahimsa, harmony, in every person whose life she touches. In her extraordinary service to humanity, Maya has helped nourish, nurture, and heal thousands of individuals and families, affecting hundreds of communities. She works from the trenches of the inner cities to the halls of the privileged, transcending cultural and social barriers. Her revolutionary work in spiritual healing education has served scores of at-risk communities in Guyana, and the United States. Maya tirelessly guides and educates humanity with her charitable holistic work through hundreds of venues around the world. For more than two decades, she has been addressing large audiences and training thousands of volunteer instructors to help serve hundreds of communities. In her work through Wise Earth School and Mother OM Mission, she pioneered the Inner Medicine® health and spirituality programs based in Ayurveda; as well as the Living Ahimsa® work that is deeply based in the principle of inner harmony, honoring the sanctity of all beings, all species, nature and her sacred resources. Maya’s work with Living Ahimsa is a universal path to inner harmony and non-hurting brings with it a renewed sense of joy, freedom, and stability for all.

Author of many best-selling books on health, wellness, and spirituality, her potent spirit of ahimsa touches the hearts of people across the world. Her books include: Living Ahimsa Diet: Nurturing Love & Life, Women’s Power to Heal: Through Inner Medicine; The Path of Practice: A Woman’s Book of Ayurvedic Healing; Ayurveda: A Life of Balance; and Ayurveda Secrets of Healing. Her meditative journal called, Love! A Daily Oracle for Healing will be out soon.

Maya’s Keynote Presentation at the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions, in Melbourne, Australia alongside the Dalai Lama and other great men and women of faith, had a dramatic impact on the consciousness of each of its participants. She eloquently addressed the theme of global reconciliation through the lens of her Living Ahimsa work: “By cultivating personal awareness of ahimsa we can find a common language that needs no words-a communion centered in the heart of oneness. If each one of us makes a commitment to inner harmony, we will surely succeed in achieving the ultimate goal of our human destiny-that of a spiritual freedom that unites us. Ultimately, it is the work of awareness within the individual person that will change the world for the better.”

Yoga for Anxiety with Maureen Finney Next held on Sat, Aug 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This enrollment runs from Sat Feb 1, 2014 - Sat Feb 1, 2014

Fee: $25
Health Series: $40 (includes Yoga for Women's Health)

Anxiety is a pervasive emotional problem. There is no one who doesn’t have the feeling of anxiety at some point in their life.
When anxiety spirals out of control and becomes more than “a little nervousness”, it can cause debilitating symptoms, e.g., obsessive thinking, insomnia, migraines, intestinal problems, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

Yoga can help with anxiety in a number of ways. It offers specific techniques that can reduce symptoms, both in the short and longer term. Because of its focus on tuning into inward states, yoga can also help get beneath the surface of anxiety to figure out what might be triggering it.

In this 2-hour seminar, we will learn through a “breath-centered practice” how to find the calm in the midst of the storm.

Wear loose comfortable clothing.
Bring your yoga mat and water bottle w/lid.

All are welcome; no experience is necessary.
